What we can learn about Senators from the judges they support

Senate Accountability

With the support of a slim majority of the Senate, President Trump has filled lifetime vacancies on the federal court at a breakneck pace. Many of these judges have ultraconservative views that are contrary to the direction most Americans think our country should be headed. The reality is that conservatives know that their policy objectives to roll back our rights and dismantle critical protections are extremely unpopular. This is why Republican senators are counting on life-tenured judges to do their dirty work of advancing their agenda for them. It comes as no surprise that many senators commit to fighting for their constituents on the campaign trail, only to consistently vote to confirm judges with records in support of gutting the very rights and protections they claim to support.

We’ve compiled the most egregious judges that, at the time of their confirmation was clear would threaten our rights, and how senators running in 2020 voted. Use the links below to check their records.

These judges pose a serious and ongoing threat to our country:

They have fought to take health insurance away from millions of people, including people with pre-existing conditions;

They are opposed to LGBTQ equality;

They have attacked access to reproductive healthcare;

They have worked to dismantle protections for clean air and water;

They have favored the interests of the wealthy and powerful at the expense of the rights and safety of workers and consumers;

They have abetted police misconduct;

And, they have supported efforts to gut voter protections.

Senators’ voting records on some of the most egregious Trump judges can help shed light on where they really stand on the issues that matter most to Americans.

Trump has nominated scores of judges committed to dismantling our rights – and senators who confirmed them must own the harm they’re already doing from the bench. Click here to read about their decisions undermining our constitutional rights and protections
