Justice Alito Must Recuse!

Public trust in the Supreme Court is already at an all-time low and recently The New York Times has reported that in the wake of the January 6 insurrection, Justice Samuel Alito’s home was flying an upside-down American flag, a symbol of the “Stop the Steal” campaign to overturn the 2020 election results. Barely a week later, the Times further revealed a flag associated with Christian nationalism flew outside Alito’s beach house last summer.

Justice Alito has ruled on several cases related to January 6 and is currently weighing whether Trump is somehow immune to prosecution for his role in the violent, anti-democratic protest. We cannot trust Justice Alito to be impartial in cases when it is evident that he is compromised by sympathy for attempts to overturn the results of a free and fair election. 

We are calling on Justice Alito to recuse from any case related to President Trump or the January 6 insurrection. He has demonstrated clear political bias and our democracy cannot be trusted in his hands. We also call on the Senate Judiciary Committee to further investigate these matters. The people deserve to know the extent to which this Supreme Court has become a partisan and political tool of the wealthy and the powerful.
