The final countdown: 8 things you can do to #StopBarrett

It’s (almost) here: Amy Coney Barrett’s hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee is on Tuesday, September 6th. That’s only 8 days away.

We know. It feels WAY too soon. But we’ve got you covered: below is a day-by-day breakdown of actions you can take to help #StopBarrett leading up to her hearing. Remember: Barrett is nominated for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. That’s a very influential court, and her rulings could affect millions of Americans for years to come.

Wednesday, August 30th: Jump on Our Activist Call

Barrett’s nomination threatens so many of the critical issues we’ve fought so hard for: reproductive justice, criminal justice, workers’ rights, advances in basic civil rights for people of color, women, and LGBTQ people. Alliance for Justice’s Legal Director, Dan Goldberg, will discuss Barrett’s record and what her confirmation would mean for our hard-won rights. You can RSVP at http://bit.ly/BarrettCall

Thursday, August 31st: Call Your Senator

If you were on the activist call on Wednesday, then you should be well prepared to talk to your senators about Amy Coney Barrett. Give them a call, and let them know why her nomination concerns you (as it should).

Not sure what to say? Check out our call script in our #StopBarrett toolkit here.

Friday, September 1st: Visit Your Senators’ Offices

Stop by their local office and voice your concerns about Barrett’s record. Remember that letter to the editor you got in your local paper? Make sure you bring them a copy. That way you know they get a chance to see it.

Saturday, September 2nd: Write an LTE for Your Local Paper

Getting a Letter to the Editor in your local paper is a great way to amplify your voice. Let the public know why Barrett is such a dangerous nominee. Plus, senators often search for the issues that their constituents care about in these local papers. You can also check out an actual LTE opposing Barrett that appeared in an Indiana paper here.

Sunday, September 3rd: Tweet with the Hashtag #StopBarrett

Get your message out there. Use the hashtag #StopBarrett on Twitter. Tweet at and tag your senators. Ask them questions about her record. Voice your concerns. Retweet others talking about Barrett. On-point gifs are a plus.

Monday, September 4th: Write a Letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee

You’ve called your senator. Awesome. Now take it one step further: write a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee. They’ll have the first chance to ask Barrett questions about her record – and they’ll cast the first vote on her nomination. So let them know why this nomination matters to you. Find out who to address your email to in our #StopBarrett toolkit, here.

Tuesday, September 5th: Get Five Friends to Call Your Senators

Teamwork makes the dream work. And it’s also super helpful when it comes to calling Senate offices. The only thing better than calling your senators’ offices is getting five more calls into your senators’ offices. Oh, and don’t forget: you can call both their district offices and their DC offices.

Wednesday, September 6th: Watch the Hearing

If you’re in the DC area, show up in person. If you’re not, you can watch the hearing on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s website. After the hearing, keep working – let your senators know you watched the hearing. Send them any questions you still have about Barrett’s record. Let them know you’re paying attention, and why this nomination matters to you.

Thursday, September 7th: Don’t Forget about Self-Care

This one’s a bonus, but important: we have to keep paying attention to Barrett’s nomination – and every judicial nomination Trump makes afterwards. So hydrate, do something that makes you happy, and take care of yourself.
