FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C., November 4, 2026 — Following Sen. Susan Collins’s defeat in Maine, Alliance for Justice Action Campaign President Rachel Rossi released the following statement:

“Eight years ago, Susan Collins made a decision that would define her legacy. Now, that decision cost her a seat in the United States Senate.

“In 2018, Collins cast a critical vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, helping secure a far-right majority that has systematically stripped away fundamental freedoms, undermined our democracy, and put the interests of wealthy corporations and the powerful ahead of everyday people.

“Collins assured the American people that Kavanaugh would respect precedent. Instead, he helped overturn Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to abortion and other reproductive health care. The damage didn’t stop there. The Court Collins helped build has also weakened voting rights, undermined protections for workers and communities of color, and expanded presidential overreach.

“Collins’s defeat is a powerful reminder that Supreme Court confirmations have consequences — not just for those impacted by decisions handed down, but for the elected officials who confirm justices.

“Collins has finally faced accountability. Now it’s time to hold the Supreme Court accountable, too. We must continue the fight for meaningful court reform and a judiciary that protects the rights of all people, not just corporations, billionaires, and the powerful.”

Since Collins first betrayed her state and the country with her Kavanaugh vote, AFJ Action has highlighted how her lack of judgment hurt everyday people. Her loss shows that people are hungry for real Supreme Court reform, and we will keep fighting for it.
